Heh.

Yesterday, I glimpsed the Face of God. It was awe-inspiring.

I refer, of course, to the start of the school year. Yesterday, at 7:18, Mr. WG loaded all four children into the car. I stood in the sudden silence, listening to the sound of my own breathing for a few seconds.

At 7:19, Mr. WG burst back into the house, looking for his wallet. At 7:20, he returned again, this time seeking the car D. wanted to take to school.

At 7:21, the car pulled out of the garage, and I was alone. In my house. And it was good.

At noon, we picked up the boys and learned that D's first day had been an incredible success. Baby J. cried more than we thought he would, but it's just not something I can get myself worked up over, you know?

S. and Z. began the second and third grade, respectively. THIRD GRADE. HOLY CRAP.

Today the phone rang mid-morning. Mr. WG answered, and I saw that the caller ID showed it was the day school, so I went to his office to see what the problem was. He grinned and gave me a thumbs-up while he continued to listen. When he hung up, he told me, "All the kids in the class are crying -- except D."

My kid rocks.

I love the kids being in school, but I am going to miss my wonderful extra set of hands, ears and shoulder. She's leaving me tomorrow :( I peeked in on my daughter and D came over and gave me a hug yesterday and said "Hi (my name)." All was perfect in his world. He was sitting on the floor playing trucks with his shadow. He has this way of endearing people to him. You should be so proud of him - I know I am!
